Role purpose:

Contributes to the effective, efficient and compliant management of the SCHOOLS project, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and managed and implemented by British Council. The post-holder will support the project manager to achieve agreed objectives and tasks to deliver the project successfully, meeting British Council corporate and client standards of compliance, and meeting the needs of all key stakeholders.

  • We opened in Algeria in 1962 (officially in 1981) and moved back office in British Embassy during the 1990s, re-opening with a greater public interface in 2006. The operation is very much focussed on the Education, and English and Exams SBUs, and delivers smaller arts and society projects.
  • A Teaching Centre opened in April 2015 and has grown rapidly. Following the signing of a bilateral cooperation agreement between the UK and Algerian governments our work supporting the reform agendas of the ministries of education and higher education, most notably in English, has increased. We are a trusted partner and service provider to those wishing to access UK education, international qualifications and English language expertise.
  • Examinations work focuses on providing access to high quality UK qualifications to Algerian customers, thereby facilitating the building of relationships with our target audiences, and improving the employment prospects of young Algerians, whether at home or abroad.
  • There are currently four full time posts in the Schools Project team: Project Manager, Project Finance and Administration Manager and two Project Officers covering administration and communications.

Successful Candidates:

Suitable candidates should have:

Minimum/essential requirements:

  • Ability to work in English (Written and spoken) to at least IELTS 6.0
  • French or Arabic to CEFR – C1
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in relevant subject area.
  • Proven ability to operate in an event driven environment where attention to detail and meeting deadlines under pressure are important for success.
  • Proven success in working with customers, clients and / or partners.
  • Proven track record in administration
  • Experience of working with different nationalities / in an international organisation.


Desirable requirements: 

  • French or Arabic to CEFR – C2
  • Knowledge of main features of education system in UK and Algeria
  • Experience of professional educational activities / projects in Algeria
  • Management experience
  • Knowledge of SAP


Benefits Package:

  • Pay Band  G : Gross Salary 132,000.00 DZD (Before tax and social security deductions)
  • Transportation allowance : 2,000.00 DZD
  • Food Allowance: 5,000.00 DZD
